Note: Administrator rights are needed for the installation process.
 
System Requirements:
  Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
 
INDIC Support:
  Indic Language support should be enabled in order to render Malayalam in the system. For that do the following.

Viewing Indic Text:
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
  2. If you are in "Category View" select the icon that says "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options" and then select "Regional and Language Options".
  3. If you are in Classic View select the icon that says "Regional and Language Options".
  4. Select the "Languages" tab and make sure you select the option saying "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)". A confirmation message should now appear - press "OK" on this confirmation message.
  5. Allow the OS to install necessary files from the Windows XP CD and then reboot if prompted.
 
Installing C-DAC Keyboard:
  Download the CDAC-T_New Malayalam Inscript_Keyboard. INSCRIPT keyboard layout.
  Double-click the file, this will install new malayalam inscript keyboard driver and font in your system. Keyboard Layout
 

To type chillu characters use the following key combinations.

  Shift V -   
  Shift X -   
  Shift “ .” -   
  \ -   
  Shift 8 -   
   
 
Adding Input Language:
 
  You must follow the steps above before you perform the remaining steps.
  1. In the "Regional and Language Options", click the "Languages" tab.
  2. Click on the "Details" tab.
  3. Check whether “Malayalam – C-DAC (T)” is available in the installed service list if so continue to step 8.
  4. Click the "Add" button to add a keyboard for Malayalam.
  5. In the Input Language drop-down box, select “Malayalam [India]".
  6. In the "Keyboard layout/IME" dropdown box, ensure you select “Malayalam-C-DAC (T)”.
( If you are having a check box labeled "Keyboard layout/IME", make sure it is selected and select “Malayalam-C-DAC (T)” from the dropdown list.).
  7. Now select "OK" to save changes.
  8. Now Click “Apply” and then “OK” in the opened windows.
 
Note: You can use the combination ALT + SHIFT to switch between different keyboard layouts (e.g. from a UK Keyboard to Malayalam and vice-versa).
